Indian has, recently, been recognized as one of the five emerging biotech leaders in Asia Pacific. On basis of number of companies, India ranks third with more than 325 biotech players with top three companies contributing 27 per cent of the revenues. The industry generated revenues of more than $2 billion in fiscal year 2007 registering a growth rate of 30 per cent. The Biopharma segment accounted for $1.4billion, that is 65 per cent of the total revenue. Bio-services and bio-agri segments contributed $550 million. Bio-industrial and bio-informatics generated Rs.4 billion and Rs.1.3 billion respectively. Total exports were Rs.10 billion. The sector also witnessed 37 percent increase in investment of Rs.22.7 billion in 2007. The industry is expected to touch US$ 5 billion in revenues by 2010 at a CAGR of 35.1 per cent.
