Indian automobile industry witnessed a growth of 39.92% in medium & heavy commercial vehicle
(MHCV) segment. Indian MHCV segment includes a range of vehicles such as cargo, trucks, buses, trailers, etc.

Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland and Swaraj Mazda are leading Indian manufacturers of MHCVs. They have now entered the global arena and are competing with Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen.
Production

During financial year 2005-06, Indian MHCV production showed a growth of 2.09% over preceding
year. MHCVs have been showing an upward production trend. At present, there are more than 2.19 lakhs MHCVs being manufactured in Indian automobile sector.

Sales in Indian automobile industry- Domestic and Exports

During financial year 2005-06, MHCV sales in Indian market showed a growth of 4.50%, with increase in exports by more than 4%. In the same period, cumulative sales of MHCVs in Indian market amount to 2.07 lakhs, with more than 14 thousand units exported by Indian manufacturers.
