Established in 1981, Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan.
Maruti delivers a variety of passenger vehicles- compact cars to luxury cars. Its product range includes Maruti 800, Omni, Maruti Zen, Estillo, Alto, Wagon R, Gypsy, Esteem, Baleno, Versa, Swift and Grand Vitara XL7. Maruti has also introduced upgraded versions of Wagon R, Zen and Esteem with the motive of becoming R&D hub for Suzuki Motor Corporation. During the financial year 2005-06, Maruti Udyog limited had a turnover of Rs. 147,043 millions with the total expenditure of Rs. 134,323 millions. At present Maruti has a 55% market share, and is planning to invest Rs. 6500crores
With the sales and services segment on top, Maruti has now entered the car insurance and finance segments. With its immense contribution to the economy of India, Maruti is also working towards the social welfare of the country. The ‘Chetna’ and ‘DPS Maruti Shiksha Kendra’ are two educational programs being run by the company. DPS Maruti Shiksha Kendra works for the education of children belonging to below-poverty-line families, whereas Chetna provides basic education to mothers of students of DPS and neighborhood women.
