BioAgri is the biotechnology applied to agriculture. It is the use of organisms or parts of organisms to improve the agricultural
products and processes. Selection of desired characteristics, domestication of plant species, and mechanics of cell biology come under this sector.
In India BioAgri is among the fastest growing sectors. In 2006 it was the third largest sector
with 81% growth. Its share in the biotech industry was about 9.17% and it had sales of Rs. 598 crore. It earned Rs. 35.88 crore from export and contributed about Rs 562.12 crore to domestic biotech business.
