Biopharmaceuticals are organic proteins made by biological processes and have diagnostic/medical uses. They involve medicines
manufactured using recombinant DNA techniques. Human Insulin (Trade name - Humulin) developed by Genentech in 1982 was the first biopharma product.

Biopharmaceuticals are drugs, proteins, nucleic acids, including antibodies, which are used for therapeutics or diagnostic
purpose and are produced from a biological source rather than direct extraction.

In 2006 Indian BioPharma sector, with a growth rate of 31.88%, had achieved revenues of about US$ 1.05 billion. With 72.20% share it became the largest sector of biotech industry.
