The Indian television industry is the biggest form of mass media in the country and its popularity is rivaled only by the film industry. Indian television offers two types of
content - fiction and non fiction. The serials are the most popular programs with both working women and homemakers comprising the core audience group. Approximately 50 percent of Indian families own a television.

TAM Annual Universal Update 2010 states that 134 million families from 223 million have television and 103 million families have access to satellite television. 20 million families in India have subscribed to DTH facilities. 
In the cities and towns across India 85 percent families own a television set and 70 percent
families have subscribed to satellite, DTH and cable services.
