The Deccan Chronicle is one of the oldest English newspapers that were published from India. The operation for Deccan Chronicle started in the year 1938. The newspaper then changed hand when the earlier owners declared bankruptcy and it was taken over by Late T Chandrashekar Reddy in 1976. Currently it has a circulation of 1,333,668 copies as certified by the Audit Bureau of Circulation.
The current operation of the newspaper is now been overseen by the two sons of Late T Chandrashekar Reddy, namely- T Venkatram Reddy and T Vinayak Ravi Reddy. Mr. T Vinayak Ravi Reddy is managing the operation of the newspaper since late ‘70s.
The newest online version of the newspaper www.deccanchronicle.com was launched in January 2009. Since then the number of unique visitors received by the site has gone up to 1.5 million and the total number of page views has been over 30 million. Most of the visitors for this site come from abroad from countries like- United States, United Kingdom and Middle East.
The Deccan Chronicle has also started publishing the International Herald Tribune from Hyderabad since May 2004. Each copy of the tribune is cost INR 30.
Deccan Chronicle and sports
The newspaper has been involved with many sports events. They are known to have patronized many athletes and sports events across the country. However, the major contribution by Deccan Chronicle towards the development of Indian sports is the event of owning the franchisee of the IPL team Deccan Chargers. The team represent the city of Hyderabad.
