PVR was incorporated as a result of a joint venture between Priya Exhibitors Pvt. Ltd and Village Roadshow Ltd. in 1995. A leading Indian film exhibition company, PVR Ltd. was the introduced the concept of multiplexes in India. PVR is the largest multiplex operator in India in terms of the number of screens. PVR also has a 100% subsidiary company, PVR Pictures which acquires and distributes Indian and international films. It specializes in the local distribution of films. It has 12 new projects coming up in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Indore, Gurgoan, Lucknow, Chennai, Ludhiana, Aurangabad and Latur.
PVR has the largest multiplex cinema in India, located at Bangalore.
