Bharati Airtel
Bharti Airtel Limited established by Sunil Mittal in 1986 with its corporate office in Delhi is the biggest telecom enterprise in India in terms of gross revenues and subscriber base. Its core competency areas are telecommunications and satellite TV. The company earned a revenue exceeding 38,000 crores INR in the financial year 2009-10 and had over 2 billion subscribers across 18 countries..

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is a public sector telecommunications company and was established by the Indian government in 2000. BSNL extends both landline and cellular telephone services and is also one of the leading broadband service providers. It had more than 71.68 million subscribers in 2010 and posted revenues of more than 30,240 in the fiscal 2009-2010. BSNL's head office is in Delhi.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd is another public sector telecommunications firm based in New Delhi. MTNL was established in 1986 and it primarily provides FWL (fixed wireless) and GSM mobile services in the metros of Mumbai and New Delhi and Mauritius. It notched revenues of 36.5 billion INR in the fiscal 2009-10.

Vodafone is the world's largest mobile telecommunications company and had nearly 347 million subscribers spread in more than 30 countries in 2010. It's Indian arm-Vodafone Essar-is the third biggest telecom establishment in India and clocked gross revenues of 232 billion INR in 2009-10 and had more than 106 million customers in the same year. Vodafone's headquarters is in London.

Reliance Communications is the spearhead amongst all the subsidiary companies of the Reliance Group. Having been incorporated in 2004, it is the second biggest telecom service provider in India (after Bharti Airtel). It has a subscriber base of 150 million and had revenues of approximately 221.3 billion INR in 2009-10. It furnishes wireline, and wireless telecom services, and broadband services in India and in some other countries.

Tata Teleservices
Tata Teleservices is the flagship enterprise of all the telecom divisions of the Tata Group. Founded in 1996, Tata Teleservices delivers services under six brands-Tata Docommo, Tata Indicom, Tata Walky, Virgin Mobile, T24, and Tata Photon. It earned revenues of 6,900 crores INR in 2009-10 and has nearly 100 million customers.

Aircel established in 1999 is a JV between Maxis Communication Berhad, the premier telecom firm of Malaysia and Sindhya Securities & Investments Private Ltd.-a subsidiary of the Apollo Hospitals Group. It was the fastest growing telecom operator in 2009-10 and had posted revenues of 47 billion INR in the same fiscal. It provides mobile telecom services, wireless data and voice services, and messaging services.

Idea Cellular
Idea Cellular is a subsidiary holding of the Aditya Birla Group of Companies and was incorporated in 1995. It is the fifth largest telecom company with more than 121 million subscribers. Idea Cellular has its corporate office in Mumbai.

Sistema, a Russian telecommunication behemoth owns and operates Mobile Telesystems (MTS). The Indian arm of MTS proffers Internet broadband, wireless voice, data, and messaging services and has a captive customer base of over 16 million. MTS's Indian office is based in New Delhi.

Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited is amongst the topmost telecom enterprises in India and mainly provides fixed wireline services in Maharashtra and Goa. The company had posted revenues of 23 billion INR in 2009-10 and has more than 8, 00,000 subscribers.
