For a post-graduate or masters, one must be a science graduate in biology, life science, environmental science or agricultural science.
Courses
Different programs have been designed to give career in environmental and safety jobs an integrated multi-disciplinary approach that would enable the students with a deeper insight to the ecological problems and prepare them for the conservation of natural resources. There are short term courses, Graduate courses, Postgraduate and Doctorate programmes.
Scope of the Career
The Supreme Court of India has recognized the importance of environmental studies and directed the University Grants Commission to launch an introductory course on environmental education in the colleges. On the basis of the directive, UGC has introduced a model curriculum on environmental studies to be introduced as a compulsory course at graduate level. NCERT and AICTE are the respective authorities taking care of environmental education at school level and technical programs. There are scopes as Environmental Researchers, Environment Safety & Protection Executives and Research and Field jobs in NGOs.
Remuneration
At the entry level, salaries vary from Rs.10000 to Rs.15000 per month. Depending on experience and nature of the job, one can receive payments between Rs.30000 and Rs.60000 per month.
