Fundraising Jobs in India

Fundraising is the process opted by individuals, businesses, governmental agencies, especially charitable foundations and NGOs for

gathering money, in the form of donations which are made either in cash or in kind. Though, fundraising sometimes refers to the procedure where investors solicit other sources of capital for their enterprises, the term is typically associated with fund gathering efforts of the non-profit organizations having charitable objectives. Increasing instances of child and women abuse, drug consumption, HIV positive cases, mental depression, disability, poverty, old age problems have created scope for NGOs to flourish, and thus have also initiated the scopes in fundraising jobs in India.

Fundraising is the primary tool that enables different charitable organizations and the non-government organizations to accrue funds for sustaining their functions. This is an important activity so as to ensure that the organization concerned never ceases to function. Various concerns, such as, research organizations, political campaigns, public broadcasters, religious bodies and philanthropic groups donate to these causes. Often, in order to raise major sums, capital campaigns and special events are conducted.

Education
A graduate or post graduate degree in social sciences is always preferred. Students interested in taking up fundraising jobs in NGOs can pursue programs offered by various colleges and universities.

Careers
Many non-profit organizations look for the services of fundraising professionals. These fundraisers are paid in two ways; either they are handed over a certain amount as a fee, irrespective of the amount of money they raise, or the fee is calculated on the basis of percentage-based compensation, i.e. by holding back a certain percentage of raised funds. Though, the international regulatory body, namely the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) explicitly forbids the practice under its Code of Ethics. In spite of this, many NGOs tend to stick to the percentage system.
