The Job
A retail pharmacist owns or manages chemist shops and drug stores. Medicines, which are prescribed by health practitioners and physicians, are dispensed by retail pharmacists. Sale of drugs without prescription is illegal in our country. Thus, pharmacists monitor the sale of drugs based on prescriptions and dosage. Sometimes, they also advise on other health care products.

In a nutshell, they:
  • Prepare the drugs according to the prescription and distributes the same to the customer
  • Monitor the sale of drugs
  • Run chemist’s shop in the retail sector
  • Act as medical representatives and inform the medical practitioners about the different aspects of a particular medicine

Eligibility
A student having physics, chemistry and math at the plus-two level is eligible for enrolling to degree (B. Pharm) and diploma (D. Pharm) courses in Pharmacy. Reputed colleges and universities offer programs on pharmacy courses.
