Purchase Jobs involves the responsibility of making bulk purchases relating to any product. Purchasing Managers, buyers and purchasing agents are the key components of a firm’s supply chain. They buy the goods and services the company needs, either to resell to customers or for the company’s own use. For example, wholesale and retail buyers purchase products for resale to customers.
Most of the purchasing managers, buyers and agents in renowned companies equally enjoy all the benefits, perks and facilities given to any other employee in their company. They sometimes work more than 40-hours a week to catch up with special sales, conferences, or production deadlines. Whereas, buyers and merchandize managers often work under pressure because wholesale and retail stores are highly competitive.

Mergers and acquisitions in retail industry have caused buying departments to consolidate. Furthermore, even large retails are eliminating local buying departments and centralizing them at their headquarters.
Educational requirement for Purchase Jobs vary from one organization to another. Many prefer someone having a bachelor’s degree with business background. Many others put emphasis on formal training and prefer candidates with master’s degree in engineering, business, economics, or one of the applied sciences. An experienced purchasing agent or buyer may become an assistant purchasing manager in charge of a group of purchasing professionals before going up to become a purchasing manager, supply manager, or director of materials management. At the top levels, duties may overlap with other management functions, such as production, planning, logistics and marketing. However, a master’s degree is essential for top-level purchasing managerial jobs.
Professional designations like Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (APP) and Certified Purchasing Manager are conferred upon by the Institute for Supply Management; Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) and Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM) are conferred upon by American Purchasing Society. These are necessary for private industries.
