NEW DEHLI: Airport executives through out India estimate passenger air travel is growing at a rate of 60% resulting in the need for 30 more airports within the next 5 years and up to 180 airports needed within 10 years. For the 5-year plan, new Indian airports will come at a great cost, estimated at Rs 67,500 crore of which 75% will need to come from the private market. But additional airport development is achievable as long as exemptions on income tax and service taxes are provided to airport developers. And the construction of new airports will create many construction related jobs and typically for every new job created two additional jobs are created in the targeted community. Also, once the airports are in place additional trade and tourism will follow to the prospective states, thus creating even more jobs. The push for new airports can only be helped by the government’s recent vow to streamline the approval process for large projects which was discussed in a recent article posted on NaukriHub.com
