IFS being the top most central services of India, it pays lucrative salary packages and emoluments. When two officers of the same designation are posted in Delhi and a foreign country, their salary packages differ to an extent. So, the Government of India provides Special Foreign Allowance to those who are posted out of the country.
After the successive performance, one gets promoted to the levels of first secretary , counsellor, minister and ambassador/high commissioner/permanent representative. They can also be posted to Indian Consulates abroad.
