Educational Qualification to Join Indian Navy

You have to pass the National Defence Academy entrance examinations (NDA I and NDA II) conducted by UPSC Other qualifications include:

  • Unmarried Male
  • Possession of sound mental and physical health
  • Passed out 12th examinations or else recognized board exams with Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics
  • Should be between 16.5- 19 years of age (upper age limit relaxations exist for reserved candidates only)

Educational Qualification for Women’s to Join Indian Navy:

  • 21-25 years of age
  • Masters or a minimum of 50% score in Mathematics (BSc) or Physics (BSc) or Computer Application or else B.Eng or B.Tech in Mechanics, Electronics etc

Indian Navy Engineering Wing Qualification:

  • 19-25 years of age based on different wings
  • Btech/BE in Mechanics/ Aerospace Engg/Naval Architecture/ Civil Engg/Mechanical Engg

For entry at the Executive level you should be within 19.5-27 years, with educational requirements varying for further levels.

Indian Naval Commands

Western Naval Command

The Western Naval Command, headquartered at Mumbai is headed by Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command, which has units in Gujarat, Goa, Karwar and Mumbai.

Eastern Naval Command


The Eastern Naval Command is based at Visakhapatnam. It is headed by Flag Officer Commanding In Chierf, ENC and has units and authorities in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Southern Naval Command

The Southern Naval command, based at Kochi, is headed by Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command has units and authorities in Chilka, Coimbatore, Ezhimala, Goa, Jamnagar, Lonavala, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Kochi.


Other Important Headlines

    • Largest ‘Make in India’ deal for naval utility choppers of Rs.20K-cr.

A proposal has been moved to Ministry of Defense specifying that Navy requires 110 naval utility choppers out of which 94 are to be made in India making it the biggest ‘Make in India’ project as an amount of Rs.20K-cr. is estimated to be involved. 11 Indian companies including Mahindra, Tata, L&T and Reliance responded to the initial information.
