History of Korea |
|
|
As far as the history of Korea is concerned, it could be said that the history of Korea extends from the Lower Paleolithuic times to the present.
The Korean pottery dates back to around 8000 BCE and the Neolithic period started off before 6000 BCE and the Neolithic period was succeeded by the Bronze age, which started off from 2500 BCE. However the kingdom of Gojosen got founded in the year 2333 BCE that extended itself from the peninsula to the Manchuria and during the 3rd century BC, it got divided into numerous states.
History states that in the early Common Era, the Three Kingdoms, which is the Goguryeo, Silla and Baekje captured the other states of the Gojosen

and eventually started to reign the peninsula and most of Manchuria. At this period the Koreans played a major role in the sense that the Koreans acted as a vector of the advances associated with culture and also contributed in their own way or helped in the formation of the Japanese politics and Japanese culture and it is to be noted here that the records of the census puts forth the fact the majority of the aristocratic Japanese clans traced their origin to the Korean peninsula.
It is believed that the rulers of the Kingdoms of Korea fought each other frequently and the Baekje as well as the Goguryeo proved to be the winners as they succeeded in forcing the Chinese invasions to accept defeat more than once. During this period Silla’s power crossed the Korean boundary and by 676 it gradually evolved as one of the first unified state that occupied a large area of the Korean peninsula and for this reason this period is known as the Unified Silla.
However, the general of the Goguryeo, after the fall of the Goguryeo headed a Korean group to the eastern region of Manchuria and founded Balhae that remained in existence from 698 A.D to 926 A.D and after the defeat of Balhae, which took place in the year 926 most of its people under the leadership of the Crown Prince took shelter in Goryeo.
The latter part of the 9th century saw the fall of the Silla and this fall of Silla resulted in the establishment of the Later Three Kingdoms, which again saw its end with the setting up of the Goryeo dynasty and under this dynasty the people were also introduced to certain laws and this dynasty also encouraged Buddhism. This dynasty was invaded by the Mughals and the war lasted for about thirty years and finally it was brought to an end with the signing of a peace treaty by the two leaders.
The establishment of the Joseon Dynasty that lasted from 1392 to 1910 by YI Seong - gye took place in the year 1392 and it was King Seong for whom the credit goes for announcing the Hangul as the Korean alphabet. This period also witnessed great advances in the field of technology as well as culture.
Korea was invaded by Japan during the period 1592-1598 but it faced strong opposition from the admiral, Yi Sun –sin, who headed the Navy and the Chinese force also put up a strong resistance and the year 1620 and 1630 are an witness to the suffering of the Joseon due to the frequent invasions by the dynasty known as the Manchu Qing Dynasty.
In the early 1970 Japan began to convince Korea to move out of the influence of China, so that Japan could form a strong hold over Korea. In the year 1985 to fulfill its mission, Japan with the help of its agents got the Empress Myeongseong of Korea assassinated. Then in the year 1905, Japan made use of its force in order to make Korea sign the Eulsa Treaty and this treaty made Korea an associated state of Japan and in the year 1910, Japan accomplished his mission that is, it seized Korea.
Korea’s biggest fight against Japan was the March 1st Movement of the year 1919 and the Korean Independence Movement that was aided as well as organized by the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea and this movement was spread to China, Siberia and Manchuria and at these places the movement had a great impact.
After the defeat of Japan in the year 1945 the United Nations harbored plans related to the trusteeship administration by the United States along with the Soviet Union but this plan got dissolved. In the year 1948 altogether a new government was set up and the Communist North Korea and the democratic South Korea got separated at the 38th parallel and at the Korean War of the 1950 the unsolved problems that existed between the North and South Korea came up and this war saw the invasion of the South Korea by North Korea.
