History of Flipkart
Flipkart was started by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal in the year 2007 in Bangalore, India. Both of the founders were alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. They were inspired by Amazon.com which is a leading online shopping website.
The online shopping website is currently the largest online bookseller in India and offers over 11.5 million titles of national and international writers under 11 different categories.
During the first two years of its existence, Flipkart only used word of mouth as their preferred way of popularizing the site. But when John Woods' ‘Leaving Microsoft to Change the World’ mentioned about Flipkart, the site became an instant success among online shoppers.
The website attained the break-even point during 2010 and since then it has been reported to grow by 100% on each quarter. Given its success as online bookstore, the owners decided to expand its business areas to mobile phones, accessories, electronics, CDs and DVDs, healthcare products etc.
