Brief about Hospitality Sector
Introduction
“Athiti Devo Bhava” – is taught to Indians right from their childhood, let’s explore what it means in the business sector!
Hospitality can be defined, as the act of being kind and receptive to the guests or visitors.
Hospitality as a sector is not easy to segregate, since hospitality and tourism are mutually dependent. However, hospitality can be divided into four sectors:
Restaurants
Hotels
Contract Catering
Hospitality Services
Structure of the Industry
Hotels – Hotels provide diversified facilities ranging from budgetary hotels to luxurious ones.
Restaurants – Restaurants effectively cater to the changing tastes of people. This sub sector includes everything from take-away outlets to fine dining restaurants. As long as people like eating in restaurants, economy downfalls are not going to affect this sector in a critical manner.
Contract catering – It refers to catering done and operated by a third party. Schools, hospitals, companies, local authorities are the major clients.
Hospitality services – The establishments where the main function is not hospitality are incorporated in the hospitality services. Areas like retail, transport etc. are included in it.
Culture
Are you a people’s person and love serving them and catering to their needs?? If your answer to the above question is yes then hospitality is the sector in which you can make a successful career. It is just one of the prerequisites. Apart from that you also need to be flexible about timings. It will not be a five-days-nine-hours job. However, you will find the environment suitable for rapid growth. From a management trainee to a general manager who leads and trains a team, the time span of five to seven years will be a saga of tiresome work but always with a tint of hospitality. The shortage of desired skills in this sector creates an environment for rapid growth.
Future trends in hospitality
The hospitality sector is emphasizing on the following priorities:
To work towards improving the public image of the industry
To promote career opportunities by increasing intakes
Organizing relevant learning and development programs for the professionals
