These alerts are sent through fax, digital pagers, fax or email. These services are free to the citizens.

The Baton Rouge Police Department was established in 1865 and is responsible for the imposing of state laws and order in the city within the boundaries of the city. the total force of this police department is 44communications officer, 189 civilians, 645 sworn officers and 34 other specialized police personals.

The Baton Rouge Police Department comprise of over 700 committed professionals and the entire department is categorized into three various departments i.e. Operational Services, Criminal Investigations and Uniform Patrol.

The Mayor appoints the Chief of Police and is responsible for all the reporting to the Mayor. The appointment and the selection of other officers is based on the superiority and is mandatory by State Civil Service Law.
