Norfolk city is a major financial and business center located in the state of Virginia. It is also considered urban, historic and cultural center of the region. The world's largest naval base named "Norfolk Naval Base" and "Norfolk Southern Railway" are established in the city. The city is bordered by Elizabeth River on west and Chesapeake Bay on west. As a major seaport, Norfolk handles shipping of items like cotton, coal, timber, tobacco, truck crops and grains.
Shipbuilding and shipping form the major part of the economy of the Norfolk city. Tourism is also one of the important industries of Norfolk. Other several local industries are military equipment, plastic production and communications.
